Construction of an index system for big data application in health care enterprises: A study based on the Delphi method

Abstract

This study explored the theory of medical enterprise management and big data. Based on the Delphi method, two rounds of expert opinions were consulted on the capability of a health care enterprise big data application index system covering 11 dimensions, 46 first-level indicators and 111 second-level indicators. The index system includes two categories of input and capacity. The input category includes five dimensions: human resources, material resources, financial resources, government policies, and social service system or social environment. The capabilities category includes six dimensions: data integration capabilities, service capabilities, data analysis capabilities, information security, profitability, and innovation capabilities. This index system aims to appraise the application capability of big data scientifically and systematically, and fills the gaps of such research in China so far, which has positive significance for further research in the future.

Evaluating Large Language Models as Tools to Navigate Researchers in Rapidly Evolving Research Landscapes: A Case Study in Cancer Drug Response Prediction

Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as promising tools for assisting researchers in automating and accelerating the synthesis of literature reviews. However, their reliability is a significant concern due to issues like factual inaccuracies and hallucinations. The key question is whether LLMs can reliably provide comprehensive, up-to-date overviews and analyses. This study evaluates the performance of three leading LLMs (OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and DeepSeek) on the complex task of generating a comprehensive survey paper on deep learning for cancer Drug Response Prediction (DRP). By testing both standard and Deep Research (DR) / Deep Think (DT) modes of LLMs with prompts of varying detail, this paper assesses key academic dimensions, including reference management, content quality, and analytical depth. Key findings reveal that while DR modes of LLMs significantly improve reliability by eliminating hallucinations, performance variations exist across models and prompts. A trade-off between reference quantity and integration quality was observed, and even the best-performing models lacked the analytical depth of human experts, often requiring extensive human supervision. The study concludes that LLMs currently serve as powerful assistive tools but still cannot replace the critical validation and synthesis provided by human researchers. Choosing the best LLM to use depends on the task in hand, while several strategies can be implemented to improve the produced output.

Histological evidences of diabetic kidney disease precede clinical diagnosis

In the absence of a histhological diagnosis, persistent albuminuria is globally accepted as the main diagnostic criteria for diabetic kidney disease.\n\nIn the present retrospective study, we evaluated data from an Italian cohort of 42 diabetic deceased donors (mainly type 2 diabetes). Using kidney biopsies obtained at time of donation to evaluate single or double allocation based on Karpinski score, we determined the prevalence of histological lesions attributable to diabetes.\n\nAll 42 donors presented with normoalbuminuria and an estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (CKD-EPI) > 60 ml/min/1.73m2. Of the 36 patients with available kidney biopsy, one was non interpretable and 32 had histopathological lesions consistent with diabetic kidney disease and encompassing all histological classes.\n\nThus, we found a relatively high proportion of histologically proven diabetic kidney disease that was clinically undiagnosed as none of the patient had significant albuminuria and eGFR <60 cc/min/1.73 m2. Our data support the need to implement routine kidney biopsies in normoalbuminuric diabetic subjects in early stages of Chronic Kidney Disease. As others have shown that histological lesions associated with diabetic kidney disease predict disease progression, such strategy may help to risk stratify patients and may guide therapeutic decisions at early disease stages.

Who is researching biodiversity hotspots in Eastern Europe? A case study on grasslands from Romania

Farming landscapes of Europe are vital arenas for social-ecological sustainability because of their significant coverage and potential to integrate food production with biodiversity conservation. Knowledge gathered by scientific research is a critical ingredient for developing and implementing socio-economically and ecologically sustainable grassland management strategies for grasslands. The quality of scientific knowledge and its potential to address grasslands as complex social-ecological systems is strongly dependent on the creativity and scientific ambition of the researcher, but also on the network (from academic and non-academic sectors) around the researcher. The goal of this paper is to map the research network around Romanias grasslands. These systems have exceptional socio-cultural and economic values and are between the most biodiverse ecosystems of the world. Considering the multiple threats to these grasslands, it is an urgent need to understand the existing scientific knowledge profile around these systems. This paper aims at using bibliometrics analysis, a well-developed scientific domain that envisages network theory to analyze relationships between affiliations network, co-authorship network, and co-word analysis. The number of studies targeting grassland management in Romania is increasing mainly thanks to international involvement. However, the management of the grasslands is still deficient and the contribution of science to the process is virtually absent. The subject of research is mainly related to the biological and ecological characteristics of grasslands, a notable absence from internationally visible research being the management of grasslands, especially in the context of EU Common Agricultural Policies. To increase scientific performance, and better inform EU and local policies on grassland management, Romanian researchers should better capitalize on international collaborations and local academic leaders. Our findings can be used to identify research gaps and to improve collaboration and knowledge exchange between practitioners, scientists, policy makers, and stakeholders.
